The Intended Bride

Five years back.
He’d kissed her on the cheek, hugged her goodbye and told her to enjoy herself. Then he’d watched her board the boat.
He’d watched her turn and blow him a kiss, her brown hair blowing around her face. He’d watched the boat pull out of the harbor, regretting his pile of work; wishing he could go along.
Then he’s turned and walked the sixteen blocks to his office.

Three days later. “Missing, presumed drowned” the newspapers had said. Glossy pictures of laughing couples and smiling young ladies were printed next to the article. “off for an afternoon’s outing” they’d printed. A list of the sixteen dead was printed the next day. Caroline, his fiancĂ©e was on that list.
The days he’d spent worrying melted into numbness. Numbness and emptiness. Without his laughing, brown haired, would-be bride, the laughter faded from his eyes. Strands of gray quickly speckled his chestnut brown hair. Wrinkles and dark circles shadowed his once young face.

Then he’d met Jen. She was quiet and sweet, her eyes smiled the way Caroline’s had. Their love was different than his and Caroline’s, quieter and less fierce; less affectionate. But they were fond of one another and that would be enough.
He stood next to the preacher, watching her father walk her down the aisle. Finally she stood beside him, her smiling eyes looking trustfully up into his. It was the flash of lilac that caught his eye, instantly bringing to mind Caroline, the lilac dress she’d worn that fateful day. He turned, following the flash with his eyes.

There she was, standing against the back wall; near the doorway. She was smiling at him, as if nothing had changed. Entranced, he released Jen’s hand and walked toward her, slowly, not really believing his eyes.

“Caroline?” he asked incredulously “where have you been?”

“I’m sorry” she said, her voice carrying a strange sort of music. “I didn’t mean to be gone so long.”

“Couldn’t you have sent word?” he demanded, suddenly remembering that it had in fact been five years.

“No” she said softly “I’m sorry Derek.”

“Where have you been?” He asked insistantly.

A mischievous smile flitted across her face.

“Follow me” she said, taking his hand. “I’ll show you.”

So he followed. The wedding guests watched, puzzled, as the groom left the stand and his bride. Engrossed, they watched as he carried on a lively dialog with the back wall. Shocked, they watched him fall to the floor, lifeless. Jen let out a cry and fainted.

Oblivious to the chaos, Derek followed his intended bride. His face was peaceful, the smile had returned to his eyes. It was as if she’d never left.

An Artist's Brush - A tribute to the Dancer

I originally wrote this as a creative writing activity, however when I re-edited and evaluated it I found that it's something I connect to more than I originally thought.

An Artist’s Brush

Her foot,

a painful but beautiful release

it floats across the stage

bearing the weight of the entire world

in her broken and bloodied toes.

An ethereal portrayal,

of the common and extraordinary

in everyday life.

A critical audience sits,

watching and waiting,

jealously wishing for a simple mistake,

entranced and enraged by such

incredible beauty.

What they don’t know,

is that she’s already made it;

trying to share such an experience

with a calloused and uncaring world.

She dances and she’s alive,

blissfully ignorant of the past and the future.

Her life is a time bomb

waiting for the mistake, or injury

that will spell the end.

She unlaces her pink satin shoes,

and numbly wipes the blood off her feet,

drying her tears on unblemished faerie wings.

With her blood she’s painted a story.

Her foot.. an artist’s brush.

Three T-shirts

Paige Lorell has too many t-shirts to count. Most of them are formfitting, and short enough to show off her nicely tanned midriff; but three are not. Three are the nasty, too-long, short sleeves down to your elbows unisex kind. One is white, one is black, and one is blue, but all three are littered with checkmarks. You see Paige Lorell, the five foot six blond, cheerleader, and beauty queen extraordinaire only dates jocks.

She understands sports only vaguely, just enough to know when to cheer, so the sport they play doesn’t really matter.
Her freshman year the football team made it to playoffs, so the white t-shirt reads “Brighton High school Bunnies Varsity football team state play-offs ‘05”; the back of the t-shirt lists the names of all the varsity football players. The white shirt has fifteen checkmarks.

A similar event happened her sophomore year with the baseball team, so the black shirt reads “Brighton high school Bunnies Varsity baseball team state play-offs ‘06”; the back lists all the varsity baseball players. The black shirt has five checkmarks.

The blue t-shirt is from her junior year. This one reads “BHS Bunnies Varsity Basketball team state play-offs ‘07” and has only eight check marks on the back.
Today she goes to her closet, and silver sharpie in hand she draws a neat checkmark next to number 15, Brian McKay of the baseball team on the black t-shirt. She broke up with Brian last night, and their two week relationship has temporarily tired her of baseball players. Because she and Brian are officially over, it’s time for what she has fondly nicknamed her boyfriend shopping routine.

With Brian now forever banished from her mind, she picks up the white and blue t-shirts. She looks between the two thoughtfully for a moment before deciding on number 36, Michael Larson of the football team. She tosses the t-shirts back onto their shelf, then closes her closet door and walks quickly to her drawers. She reaches them, opens the top one and pulls out a large box. The box contains three bundles of index cards: one for football players, one for baseball players, and one for basketball players. Each card contains a small profile of each player on the three teams, including name, picture and phone number. They are alphabetically organized so she finds Michaels’s card and looks at her calendar thoughtfully. “I’ll give him a week” she says to herself. Then she picks up the phone and dials his number.

In exactly a week she’s back in her closet, repeating the routine. After all, this is her junior year and she still has eighty six checkmarks to go. Paige Lorell is a cheerleader, with a mission.

Five Minutes Ago

Five Minutes Ago

He picked up the phone,
just said hello.
A sob of relief, a quiet he's ok.
A long awkward silence.
Then the earth shaking words
there's been an accident.
The phone drops from his hand
but he doesn't care.

No it can't be he says to himself.
Cause just five minutes ago,
we stood under that tree.
Just five minutes ago,
she held my hand.
Just five minutes ago,
I hugged her goodbye.
Then five minutes ago
she jumped in her car,
and drove on down the road.
Not knowing or caring
that hug was her last.

Another young boy had too much too drink.
Then five minutes ago
he jumped in his car,
and sped on down the road
not knowing ore caring
this night was his last.

A stupid decision, an innocent victim.
Two broken bodies, lying on stretchers.
Both carted away from all they once had.
No more wind in their hair,
no more sun on their face.
Cause five minutes ago God cut to the chase,
and took them both home
each one to their place.
Neither one knowing
that breath was their last.

Why did I live when he took her away?
She'll never laugh again.
She'll never dance again.
Her smile, her face.
A million things lost, cause that boy
had to drive.

If only, if only that drive wasn't her last!
I'd hug her, I'd hold her,
If only if only this night wasn't her last!
Two lives and two dreams,
both terribly wasted.
Only because that first sip
wasn't his last, only because
that boy had to drive.

How does one live,
move on and
forgive?
When that hug was her last,
When that wave was goodbye,
When that boy was stupid,
and that girl is dead?
How can I live, laugh and love
when an angel now stands,
Where five minutes ago,
he last held her hand?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow they'll come, put them both in a box.
Then bury them deep, far below the earth's crust.
Think of the friends, the family all those they loved.
But most of all think of those poor wasted lives.
Then measure your dreams, your hopes and your wishes.
Don't make that trade, cause whatever you've got
it's so so much better than a box in the dirt.
Think of the sun shine, the wind on your face.
It's a beautiful day but it could be her last.
The Lonely Ladybug
Me and two of my friends were playing the story game the other morning.
This is when you start with a sentence then pass the paper from person each writing a sentence until it's over. Our story turned out really good so here it is:
The Lonely Ladybug
By: Becca, Kelsey and Zach
Once upone a time in a castle made of pancakes lived a lonely orange ladybug.
Now this lonely orange ladybug was one-hundred-fiftyseven years old, which is not too old for a ladybug. She dreamed every night of the one-hundred-and-sixty year old ladybug named James who lived across the fields of cotton candy in a castle made of graham crackers.
James was a red ladybug and his amazing graham cracker castle was the wonder of ladybug land.
So off on her journey she want, watching day and night for Lady Liquorish, her rival for James and his amazing graham cracker castle. Finaly she arrived at James' castle, before lady Liquorish and was welcomed by James for dinner.
Just as she and James sat down for dinner, Lady Liquorish burst in angrily brandishing her pretzel and gumdrop want. The lonely ladybug jumped from her chair, and unsheather her wand of bacon preparing to banish Lady Liquorish to the dreaded land Green Beans!!
Then Lady Liquorish pointed her wand at the lonely ladybug. Anger sizzled through the air and the lonely ladybug jumped too late at was hit by a jet of red light.
In an instant she was changed from her beautiful orange self to a hideous red ladybug. She immediately returned the spell changing the charming pink Lady Liquorish into a hideous green and blue speckled devil! Lady Liquorish screamed in fury, and prepared to stab the lonely ladybug.
But James jumped between them "ENOUGH!!" he yelled. He changed them both back into their beautiful selves and allowed them to settle their differences over Jelly bean soup.
Lady Liquorish finished her soup then hurried home. The lonely orange ladybug, who was now no longer lonely, was left to marry her charm prince James in his beautiful castle of graham crackers.
Dance with Me
I wrote this because me and some friends are filming a talk show next week, and we needed a skit for it. <3>
Narrator: Once upon a time
James: No! No! No! I'm just an average street sweeper, this story is my one chance for greatness. Can it please have another beginning?
Narrator: Hey! I like once upon time
James: So do I, don't get me wrong. It's just a little overused
Narrator: Ok ok, I've got one. Many Years ago in a far off place,
James: That's better
Narrator: Hush!! Many years ago in a far off place lived a street sweeper named James . Every day
James: I sweep streets
N: Day in and day out he swept streets. Now street sweeping isn't such a bad job, but in his heart James longed for something more.
James: I want an adventure, but street sweepers don't have adventures
Narrator: Little did James know that the perfect adventure was crashing his way
Messenger : May it be know that all young men in the kingdom are hereby invited to a royal ball at 7pm at the palace tonight in honor of princess Julia's 18th birthday. Goodbye.
James: Wait!
Messenger : What?
James: Did you just invite me to a royal ball?
Messenger : The invitation did include you I suppose, but I am much too busy to debate the finer points of court proclamations. Goodbye!
Narrator: So James went back to his street sweeping he swept faster than he ever had before . Finally he finished But now he had another problem: what to wear to the royal ball? So James skipped off in search of the perfect thing to wear to the ball.
Fairy: Uncle James!!!
Narrator: James was so busy that he didn't notice his older sister's daughter, his niece and fairy god-daughter following him.
James : It's hopeless!!!
Fairy: Uncle James!!! N
arrator: But James still did not notice, so his fairy god-daughter decided that it would take desperate measures to get his attention. She pulled out her wand and said:
Fairy : Gibbity Gobbity Go!!
Narrator: Nothing happened so she tried again:
Fairy: Clickity Clockity Clue!!
Narrator: Suddenly her can of magic fairy dust appeared, she sprayed it in the air, rapidly getting her uncle's attention!
James : Hello Lisa!
Narrator: Finally getting his attention she gently layed the dry cleaned suit her mother (the dry cleaner) had sent her to deliver to a neighbor also named James. Unaware that her innocent mistake had opened new doors for James she skipped away!
James : Hmmmmm
Narrator: Suddenly it occurred to him, his sister the dry cleaner had heard about the ball and sent him the suit to wear for it. He ran to get dressed, meanwhile at the castle...
Queen: Come you must get ready for the ball!
Princess: I don't want to go the ball
Queen: Nonsense Julia! The ball is in honor of your eighteenth birthday, you must go!
Princess: I know why I have to go I just really don't want to
Queen: Nonsense!! This is a very important ball, you must go!
Princess :And find a husband
Queen: And find a husband
Queen: Julia it's not that bad.
Princess: They're just so boring!
Queen: What?
Princess: Prince Charming only wants to hear himself talk, Prince Awesome only wants to show off and Prince Intellect is an absolute toad!!
Queen: Who names their sons Charming, Awesome and Intellect anyway???
Princess: You're not helping mother
Queen: Sorry honey, I just meant that maybe the boy you're looking for isn't a prince.
Princess: I suppose so
Queen: You'll meet him tonight, I'm sure you will!! He'll walk in and look at you...
Princess: What will he say?
Queen: He'll say... Dance with me! But no one is going to say anything if you don't get ready
Narrator: So the princess got ready and the guests arrive. Julia mingled while James wandered, both unaware of what was to come.
James: Sorry...
Narrator: James began, but before he could finish he met the princess' eyes. They stared into each other's eyes until James retrieved her glass slipper and pulled her to her feet. Then very slowly he reached out his hand..
James: Dance with me?
Narrator: The princess said yes and you all know th rest
Narrator: Ok ok, James got a bad allergic reaction from his fairy god-daughters fairy dust but it wasn't that bad and they got married and lived in a shinning castle, became king and queen and lived happily ever after!!
Everyone: The end!
Harry Potter 7
Harry Potter 7 is comming out on JULY 21st!!!!!
I'm soooo excited, but it's defiently a mark of how much I loved camp last year that I'll be at Camp WILD when it comes out. So I probably won't be up until 5 in the morning reading it like I was last time (I finished too!!!)
But anyway.. intresting/exciting things I've found out about it (mostly so I can keep track of them)
"Now, the important thing about Harry's mother - the really, really significant thing - you're going to find out in two parts. You'll find out a lot more about her in book five, or you'll find out something very significant about her in book five, and you'll find out something incredibly important about her in book seven." – J. K. Rowling
Because Harry convinced Remus Lupin and Sirius Black to spare Peter Pettigrew's life in the third book, Pettigrew owes Potter a yet unpaid life debt.
Rowling has long said that the fact that Harry's eyes resemble his mother's is important
Rowling has said that some non-magical character will perform magic late in life in desperate circumstances.[26] However, Petunia will not be the one to perform magic (despite that whole Petunia being a squib theory)
Rowling has said that Ginny Weasley is quite powerful, that we have seen a taste of that in the past, and we will see it again (HECK YESSS)
Dumbledore was said to have a "gleam of triumph" in his eyes when told that Voldemort had restored his body using Harry's blood, at the end of Goblet of Fire (Ch. 36). Rowling has confirmed that this is "still enormously significant
Trek
Woah... just got back from youth confrence. It was a pioneer trek and was mighty intresting let me tell you. They divided us into "families" with a ma and a pa and I had three sisters and four brothers, as well as one of the nurses who they decided was our "aunt". It got below 20 one night which is totaly crazy for Texas. And this morning I was so cold I was wearing all my shirts (4), a sweatshirt, my cloak lined with a blanket, two pairs of pants, my skirts and my sleeping bag. The sleeping bag part was intresting... the sleeping bag didn't unzip all the way so I had part of it on my head and trailing onto my shoulder and then I just wrapped the rest around myself. My hands were so red and cold I finaly just put my pink poka-dotted socks on them as gloves. It was sooooooo cold! It wasn't that bad when we were moving, but when we werent it was freezing. My sunbonnet also un-ruffled itself this morning and looked really stupid so I kept stealing my "brother"'s hat... the guys hats were cooler anyway :D
We had to walk through a river yesterday, it wasn't very deep but it was freezing cold. My "brothers" kept asking if I wanted to be carried but I was sooo afraid of being dropped (I saw two girls from another group dropped) that I just hiked up my skirts and kept going. Then they had to rope up the handcarts.. which involved going through mud. My shoes got suctioned into the mud and it was sooo gross cause people kept walking over them so they had to dig around to find them and they were covered in MUD!! Ewwww! There was no were to wash our feet either so I had to use my hand towel and waterbottle to clean them. It was worth it though... my water shoes were a mess but my feet were nice and warm (if not entirely clean) in my socks and tall boots.
They also gave us a "baby" named Sarah Ashton. It was really a pillow dressed up and with hair and a face drawn on but one of us always had to be holding it.
Some one accidently called her Sarah Ashton "Kutcher" so the name stuck and we ended up calling her that. It may seem weird but it was almost like she was alive cause we were always taking care of her and everything... but today they said all the babies had died of cholera and we had to bury her. It was sooo sad, I was literaly crying so one of my brothers came over and gave me a hug.
Then when we got to the 2nd hardest/muddiest hill they "drafted" all of the guys and we had to pull the carts all by ourselved up these really steep hills. The had to be tied to ropes for a lot of the time... me and this other girl were in front pulling and everyone else was pushing. They didn't even bother to hide the guys, they were just sitting on the cliff above us watching. It was soo hard cause it was all muddy and everything. It was really cool when we were done though, cause we'd done one of the hardest parts without the guys. Then the guys did a project and they gave us one of those inspirational talk thingies.
This morning we did the hardest hill and there were all these people in white shirts helping us push cause it was really rocky and steep. But none of them would talk to us. Well one of them had this patch thingy so I assumed they were park rangers cause we were in a national park. Well we got back to camp and all the other groups were talking about the angels. It took me a while then my friend said "help me find David (her 21yr old YSA return missionary boy friend who wasn't on the trek". So I was like What? Then she said "you know the angels... they helped push the cart up the hill". Then I said "oh you mean the park rangers?" Then it hit me as everyone started laughing.
I was with a really awesome & funny family so it was a lot of fun even if it was really hard. I had a really cool family too... I'll miss them a lot. But I'm soooo glad to be home with my real family... and running water and flushing toilets. :)
Another story!!! I still don't have a title for this one, comment if you have a good one. I finaly set comments so you don't have to be registered, just click on the comments button and type something.
<3 Kelsey
They had nothing to say to each other Kabira thought firmly as she walked slowly up the mountain. They would only try to stop her from doing what she now knew that she must. Zara, the princess and Kabira's best friend lay dying in the barren field below. It was a grim sight, the field littered with the bodies of the dead and dying. And for what? Kabira asked bitterly. They had fought, these last five years for the defeat of evil; to put Zara back on her rightful throne. Evil had at last been defeated, but there was nothing left for the good to own. Without a princess they would be back were they had started, those five years ago.
Yes, Kabira thought firmly I cannot let that happen. So she continued up the endless path to the top of the mountain, trying not to look back at all she was leaving behind. They need me to do this, she told herself again. If I do not, everyone and everything I love will wither away and perish. So she continued up the path. Her resolve almost crumbled as she glanced back once and saw Daran. The war had taken away their shared childhood, but not their love for one another. What will he do without me? She wondered forlornly to herself, but she steeled herself with the legends. It had been the same, all those thousands of years ago. Another princess lay dying in the field below, and another sacrifice had been required to create the kingdom she knew and loved. Legend said that as the princess had breathed her last breaths her friend had run to the top of the mountain; and cried unto the gods for her friend's life. The princess had been saved, she reminded herself bravely; and so she continued walking.
Memories fell onto her mind, like rain on dry ground. She eagerly soaked them up, reminding herself why she must do what she must. A childhood with Zara and Daran by her side, how she and Daran danced the night away at their first ball, the joy of being free and happy. Before she was ready she reached the top, her walking was through. She looked down for the last time, Zara still lay unmoving, close to death. Bodies still littered the bloodstained ground. Still her eyes could not find the other she was searching for. "Let me see his face, one last time" she prayed, and then she did. He lifted his eyes to the mountain, and although it seemed impossible their eyes locked; boring through the time and distance to reach each other. "Goodbye" she breathed to him, the wind whipping through her copper brown hair "I love you, both of you" she sang to the sky; the echos carrying her last words to him on the wind.
Daran never looked away, but suddenly she was gone. He ran to the mountain, praying that it could not be true. He ran to the top, his lungs burning with the sulferous air. But when he reached the top it was too late, all that remained was a bright red cloak; clinging to a broken tree. He looked over the edge into the boiling lava below, it's heat burning his face; even from far away. Daran wiped the unwilling tears from his eyes, no one would ever know where she had gone; all that could be sure is that she was gone... forever. With her passing a spring wind blew gently through the field, breathing hope into the hearts of the wounded. As he watched Zara rubbed her eyes and sat up. When he reached the bottom of the mountain she ran to greet him, a question in her eyes. Silently he shook his head, and in an instant she understood. Kabira was gone forever, he could never love another. But her spirit remained in the earth around them, healing the damage of the war. When the wind blew again it carried not just hope but promise. Promise that the kingdom would heal. Promise that Zara would reign for many years, returning the peace to her kingdom. Most of all the promise of happiness for the children of tomorrow, who would one day take the place of Zara, Daran and Kabira. The promise of a kingdom full of promise, in return for the sacrifice of one noble girl. But her sacrifice was not in vain, the future she gave up would provide a new world.
Beauty and the Beast
Wow!!
I just got back from my preformance tonight... it was awesome.
I've always been a bit doubtful after the preformances but I wasn't tonight, even though a lot of people screwed up I felt really good about it. I was able to overcome a lot of the issues I've had and throw myself into it all the way and I know I did my absolute best!!!
It's really an amazing feeling, and one of the biggest reasons I like acting cause when you really get into it and work really hard it's totaly awesome to hear the people clap at the end of the scene and know they're clapping for you... and that you deserve it because it's terribly obdvious when the clapping is just that akward polite kind. The you-did-a-great-job kind is soooo much better than the other kind!!! :) I went after to greet the audience and two of my friends that I've been in plays with before were there and it was sooo cool cause I was really hoping they would come. I wish you were all here to see it!!! <3 Kelsey
The Commandments of Friendship and Dating/Guys Part 1
Hi everyone!!!
Guess what? You get to read a list about guys composed by a couple of teenage girls.
:-P Ok that sounded a little weird so I'll tell you the story
We were sitting in German... doing absolutely NOTHING so I look at J and say "I've got an idea"
The idea from this list came mostly from the fact that 90% of my friends are 16 or will be in the next couple of weeks. At the end of German it was about half a page, but by the end of the next period with Sadie it was about three pages. Keep in mind that this is an ongoing project so you'll probably see more later. <3>here is THE LIST!
By the way "the guy" = boyfriend, crush or date
1. Thou shalt not neglect thy friends in favor of "the guy"
2. Thou shalt not date a guy your friend fancies unless she is fickle and likes more than 1
3. Thou shalt kindly give advice when asked for (or if you have a really good ide) but thou shalt NEVER mock "the guy" no matter how ridiculous you find their relationship
4. Tell your friend if they look awful (kindly) - There is to be no beating around the bush between friends
5. Thou shalt divulge any information pertaining to "the guy" no matter how insignificant it may seem
6. Thou shalt obtain pictures of any cute guys that you know but your friends know not before you start the insessently talking about him thing
7. Thou shalt warn thy friend if thou hast any legitimate reason to be concerned about "the guy"'s morals/reputation (his being non-morman doesn't count)
8. Thou shalt defend thy friend's honor and reputation (unless arguing with your chronic PMS mother, then you may do so non-verbally)
9. Thou shalt distribute thy time fairly between thy friends and "the guy" never more guy than friends (but it is ok to include "the guy" with your friends)
10. None of that akward third wheel stuff... if its just gonna be you, "the guy" and the friend dont make them come, that's just akward for all involved.
11. Thou shalt patiently listen and comment (encouragingly) to your friends raving about "the guy". Thou shalt not bring up the last one or say anything unencouraging or mean (see commandments 28 &29)
12.Thou shalt listen graciously to any legitimate concerns/critisism of "the guy" (remember they are your friends and are trying to HELP you)
13. Thou shalt NEVER mention "the Ex"
14. Thou shalt ABOVE ALL remember that your friends were here before the guy and will most likely be here long after he is gone (aka don't fight over guys!)
15. Thou shalt never date "the Ex" unless making 100% sure it is completely ok with your friend
16. Thou shalt NEVER flirt with "the guy" or the Ex" in the presence of your friend (regardless of consent recieved in commandment 15... thats just AKWARD!!)
17. Thou shalt never flirt with "the guy" regardless of whether or not your friend is around
18. Thou shalt never so much as LOOK at the Ex until consent is recieved (see commandment 15) remember no matter how cool he is he's NOT worth your friendship
19. Thou shalt never divulge any information concerning "the guy" or "the ex" or the friend to any parent or authority figure unless it is of serious danger to any of the above three (no dating a non-morman still doesn't count)
20. Thou shalt allow thy friend a period of space and peace as she overcomes the newly made "EX" (if desired)
21. Thou shalt not allow this period of space and peace to extend through an unhealthy amount of time (drag her to a party with lots of cute guys if necessary)
22. Always try to see how your friend is trying to help you see the truth about "the guy", life or overcomming "the guy", don't deny their help (see number 14)
23.Thou shalt defend "the guy" from any possible competition when thy friend is either not present or too intimidated to do so
24. Thou shalt no hate the Barbie because she is pretty, thou shalt only hate her if "the guy" thinks so... and probably not even then (strong dislike is ok)
25. Thou shalt always trust thy friends and "they guy" above any rumors you may hear to the contraty (exception they say something about each other, in this case seriously check it out and talk to witnesses)
26. Thou shalt not try to turn thy friend against "the guy" regardless of your opinion of him (this doesn't mean hide harmful information, just check your motives)
27. Thou shalt kindly inform thy friend of comments being made behind her back (excersize caution if you did not personaly hear the said comments)
28. Thou shalt remember that love is blind and in some cases "the guy" will be a complete idiot/jerk grin and bear it, any attempts to break it up will probably just extend the clingly nasty period. Don't worry... eventually her eyes will come back
29. However if "the guy" is dangerous to your friend's mental, emotional, physical health and she refuses to see reason thou shalt drag her into the trees and slap her (gently) until she sees reason (figuratively of course)
The Unforgotten Soldier
Guess what everyone???
IT'S STORY TIME! lol... I wrote this during a class at some point when I was really bored.
Please excuse the punctuation :)
<3 Kelsey
The Unforgotten Soldier
Carrie stood at the train station waiting and hoping. A little apart from her a large group was forming:
sweethearts, mothers and little brothers all waiting for loved ones to step off the train. A few shot brief pitying glances toward the lonely girl,
but most did not. It was easier to forget they thought, no one wanted to see her grief on such a happy day.
A train whistle was heard faintly in the distance, and excitement swept through the crowd.
Still the girl stood all alone staring into the distance.
The day was clear and the sun shined brightly, almost mocking her sadness.
The second whistle of the train brought back memmories, of another clear sunny day, another dreaded train whistle, four years ago.
He wrapped his arms tight around her and kissed her, there on the platform in front of everyone.
A moment later they pulled apart "Thomas" she said sounding shocked "what on earth will people think?"Secretly she didn't mind, secretly she was bursting with pride for her brown haired soldier. "Just what they should" he replied with an impudent grin. Then softer "I love you Carrie."
"I love you too" she said choking back tears.
"Don't you forget that lassie" he said with mock fierceness.
"I won't" she promised as the tears began to slip down her face.
He gently wiped them away and smiled down at her.
"I'll think of you every day" he whispered in her ear as the whistle sounded again.
"And I of you" she began, but the train doors began to shut.
Thomas pulled her close for one last hug "It's time Carrie" he said softly.
She closed her eyes and ran her fingers through his curly brown hair. "Go" she said with a gentle shove.
He squeezed her hand and they locked eyes as the train started to pull away. He released her hand and ran for the departing train.
He jumped and Carries heart almost stopped, but he managed to pull himself up and wave cheekily.
Carrie let out a breath she'd unconciously been holding and waved back.
"Be careful Thomas" she said softly.
She watched the train as it pulled away but quickly turned aside before it was out of sight, knowing it was bad luck to watch some one leave until they were out of sight. With a prayer in her heart she began the weary walk home.
The groaning sigh of the train pulling up at the platform brought her back to the present.
She straightened and nervously brushed her skirt off as the train doors banged open.
The soldiers rolled off the train in waves, running to family and friends they hadn't seen in years.
Still no soldier ran to Carrie.
Still she stood patiently waiting, as other sweethearts were hugged and spun around.
The crowd thinned as people returned to their homes. A few more straggled wearily off the train, these could not run.
They bore the wounds and scars of the past few years. Some missed an arm, a leg, or an eye, but all were greatful to be returning home at all.
A few nurses pushed stretchers off the train, but still there was no Thomas. A couple walked by Carrie, the soldier had curly brown hair... just like Thomas. His arm was wrapped around a girl's shoulder and she gazed adoringly up at him, smiling.
We used to look like that Carrie thought a little sadly.
The last few soldiers stood on the platform scanning the dwindling crowd for their loved ones.
Carrie watched them as one by one their faces lit up with smiles when they spotted a familiar face.
Then they'd hurry away to homes and people they'd sorely missed.
Still she waited patiently.
The train whistled again and the doors began to shut, but still she waited.
The train began to pull away, but Carrie still waited.
The train clacked out of sight. Carrie still waited.
Some one tapped her on the shoulder and her heart soared. She spun around joyfully... but it was only the soldier with the curly brown hair.
His sweetheart stood back a little waiting.
"Are you Carrie Thompson?" he asked hesitantly. Mutely she nodded.
"I have something for you" he said drawing a small tissue paper packet from his pocket and handing it to her.
She opened it slowly. A lone tear escaped when she saw its contents, a small gold heart shaped locket.
The necklace she'd given to Thomas the day he'd left, hers since childhood. She'd liked to think of him, looking at it, thinking of her.
"Is he?" she managed to choke out. The soldier shrugged.
"I don't know, no one does. But I found it in the trenches and wanted to bring it back to you."
The tears were now flowing freely down her pale face.
"Thank you" she said slowly. The soldier just nodded.
"He was brave, your Thomas. He talked of you often and wanted to make it back to you more than anything. He was a fine man Carrie, he'll be sorely missed." Carrie could only nod her head in reply. With a last sympathetic glance over his shoulder he left.
He embraced the girl and they walked away hand in hand. Someday Thomas and I will look like that again she thought.
But for now there was tomorrow's train. For now she'd be content on that platform.. waiting and watching, hoping and praying.
There she will stand till she is old and grey, waiting for a boy who will never come home.
