Five years back.
He’d kissed her on the cheek, hugged her goodbye and told her to enjoy herself. Then he’d watched her board the boat.
He’d watched her turn and blow him a kiss, her brown hair blowing around her face. He’d watched the boat pull out of the harbor, regretting his pile of work; wishing he could go along.
Then he’s turned and walked the sixteen blocks to his office.
Three days later. “Missing, presumed drowned” the newspapers had said. Glossy pictures of laughing couples and smiling young ladies were printed next to the article. “off for an afternoon’s outing” they’d printed. A list of the sixteen dead was printed the next day. Caroline, his fiancĂ©e was on that list.
The days he’d spent worrying melted into numbness. Numbness and emptiness. Without his laughing, brown haired, would-be bride, the laughter faded from his eyes. Strands of gray quickly speckled his chestnut brown hair. Wrinkles and dark circles shadowed his once young face.
Then he’d met Jen. She was quiet and sweet, her eyes smiled the way Caroline’s had. Their love was different than his and Caroline’s, quieter and less fierce; less affectionate. But they were fond of one another and that would be enough.
He stood next to the preacher, watching her father walk her down the aisle. Finally she stood beside him, her smiling eyes looking trustfully up into his. It was the flash of lilac that caught his eye, instantly bringing to mind Caroline, the lilac dress she’d worn that fateful day. He turned, following the flash with his eyes.
There she was, standing against the back wall; near the doorway. She was smiling at him, as if nothing had changed. Entranced, he released Jen’s hand and walked toward her, slowly, not really believing his eyes.
“Caroline?” he asked incredulously “where have you been?”
“I’m sorry” she said, her voice carrying a strange sort of music. “I didn’t mean to be gone so long.”
“Couldn’t you have sent word?” he demanded, suddenly remembering that it had in fact been five years.
“No” she said softly “I’m sorry Derek.”
“Where have you been?” He asked insistantly.
A mischievous smile flitted across her face.
“Follow me” she said, taking his hand. “I’ll show you.”
So he followed. The wedding guests watched, puzzled, as the groom left the stand and his bride. Engrossed, they watched as he carried on a lively dialog with the back wall. Shocked, they watched him fall to the floor, lifeless. Jen let out a cry and fainted.
Oblivious to the chaos, Derek followed his intended bride. His face was peaceful, the smile had returned to his eyes. It was as if she’d never left.

An Artist's Brush - A tribute to the Dancer
I originally wrote this as a creative writing activity, however when I re-edited and evaluated it I found that it's something I connect to more than I originally thought.
An Artist’s Brush
Her foot,
a painful but beautiful release
it floats across the stage
bearing the weight of the entire world
in her broken and bloodied toes.
An ethereal portrayal,
of the common and extraordinary
in everyday life.
A critical audience sits,
watching and waiting,
jealously wishing for a simple mistake,
entranced and enraged by such
incredible beauty.
What they don’t know,
is that she’s already made it;
trying to share such an experience
with a calloused and uncaring world.
She dances and she’s alive,
blissfully ignorant of the past and the future.
Her life is a time bomb
waiting for the mistake, or injury
that will spell the end.
She unlaces her pink satin shoes,
and numbly wipes the blood off her feet,
drying her tears on unblemished faerie wings.
With her blood she’s painted a story.
Her foot.. an artist’s brush.

Three T-shirts
Paige Lorell has too many t-shirts to count. Most of them are formfitting, and short enough to show off her nicely tanned midriff; but three are not. Three are the nasty, too-long, short sleeves down to your elbows unisex kind. One is white, one is black, and one is blue, but all three are littered with checkmarks. You see Paige Lorell, the five foot six blond, cheerleader, and beauty queen extraordinaire only dates jocks.
She understands sports only vaguely, just enough to know when to cheer, so the sport they play doesn’t really matter.
Her freshman year the football team made it to playoffs, so the white t-shirt reads “Brighton High school Bunnies Varsity football team state play-offs ‘05”; the back of the t-shirt lists the names of all the varsity football players. The white shirt has fifteen checkmarks.
A similar event happened her sophomore year with the baseball team, so the black shirt reads “Brighton high school Bunnies Varsity baseball team state play-offs ‘06”; the back lists all the varsity baseball players. The black shirt has five checkmarks.
The blue t-shirt is from her junior year. This one reads “BHS Bunnies Varsity Basketball team state play-offs ‘07” and has only eight check marks on the back.
Today she goes to her closet, and silver sharpie in hand she draws a neat checkmark next to number 15, Brian McKay of the baseball team on the black t-shirt. She broke up with Brian last night, and their two week relationship has temporarily tired her of baseball players. Because she and Brian are officially over, it’s time for what she has fondly nicknamed her boyfriend shopping routine.
With Brian now forever banished from her mind, she picks up the white and blue t-shirts. She looks between the two thoughtfully for a moment before deciding on number 36, Michael Larson of the football team. She tosses the t-shirts back onto their shelf, then closes her closet door and walks quickly to her drawers. She reaches them, opens the top one and pulls out a large box. The box contains three bundles of index cards: one for football players, one for baseball players, and one for basketball players. Each card contains a small profile of each player on the three teams, including name, picture and phone number. They are alphabetically organized so she finds Michaels’s card and looks at her calendar thoughtfully. “I’ll give him a week” she says to herself. Then she picks up the phone and dials his number.
In exactly a week she’s back in her closet, repeating the routine. After all, this is her junior year and she still has eighty six checkmarks to go. Paige Lorell is a cheerleader, with a mission.

Five Minutes Ago
Five Minutes Ago
He picked up the phone,
just said hello.
A sob of relief, a quiet he's ok.
A long awkward silence.
Then the earth shaking words
there's been an accident.
The phone drops from his hand
but he doesn't care.
No it can't be he says to himself.
Cause just five minutes ago,
we stood under that tree.
Just five minutes ago,
she held my hand.
Just five minutes ago,
I hugged her goodbye.
Then five minutes ago
she jumped in her car,
and drove on down the road.
Not knowing or caring
that hug was her last.
Another young boy had too much too drink.
Then five minutes ago
he jumped in his car,
and sped on down the road
not knowing ore caring
this night was his last.
A stupid decision, an innocent victim.
Two broken bodies, lying on stretchers.
Both carted away from all they once had.
No more wind in their hair,
no more sun on their face.
Cause five minutes ago God cut to the chase,
and took them both home
each one to their place.
Neither one knowing
that breath was their last.
Why did I live when he took her away?
She'll never laugh again.
She'll never dance again.
Her smile, her face.
A million things lost, cause that boy
had to drive.
If only, if only that drive wasn't her last!
I'd hug her, I'd hold her,
If only if only this night wasn't her last!
Two lives and two dreams,
both terribly wasted.
Only because that first sip
wasn't his last, only because
that boy had to drive.
How does one live,
move on and
forgive?
When that hug was her last,
When that wave was goodbye,
When that boy was stupid,
and that girl is dead?
How can I live, laugh and love
when an angel now stands,
Where five minutes ago,
he last held her hand?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow they'll come, put them both in a box.
Then bury them deep, far below the earth's crust.
Think of the friends, the family all those they loved.
But most of all think of those poor wasted lives.
Then measure your dreams, your hopes and your wishes.
Don't make that trade, cause whatever you've got
it's so so much better than a box in the dirt.
Think of the sun shine, the wind on your face.
It's a beautiful day but it could be her last.
He picked up the phone,
just said hello.
A sob of relief, a quiet he's ok.
The Lonely Ladybug
Me and two of my friends were playing the story game the other morning.
This is when you start with a sentence then pass the paper from person each writing a sentence until it's over. Our story turned out really good so here it is:
The Lonely Ladybug
By: Becca, Kelsey and Zach
Once upone a time in a castle made of pancakes lived a lonely orange ladybug.
Now this lonely orange ladybug was one-hundred-fiftyseven years old, which is not too old for a ladybug. She dreamed every night of the one-hundred-and-sixty year old ladybug named James who lived across the fields of cotton candy in a castle made of graham crackers.
James was a red ladybug and his amazing graham cracker castle was the wonder of ladybug land.
So off on her journey she want, watching day and night for Lady Liquorish, her rival for James and his amazing graham cracker castle. Finaly she arrived at James' castle, before lady Liquorish and was welcomed by James for dinner.
Just as she and James sat down for dinner, Lady Liquorish burst in angrily brandishing her pretzel and gumdrop want. The lonely ladybug jumped from her chair, and unsheather her wand of bacon preparing to banish Lady Liquorish to the dreaded land Green Beans!!
Then Lady Liquorish pointed her wand at the lonely ladybug. Anger sizzled through the air and the lonely ladybug jumped too late at was hit by a jet of red light.
In an instant she was changed from her beautiful orange self to a hideous red ladybug. She immediately returned the spell changing the charming pink Lady Liquorish into a hideous green and blue speckled devil! Lady Liquorish screamed in fury, and prepared to stab the lonely ladybug.
But James jumped between them "ENOUGH!!" he yelled. He changed them both back into their beautiful selves and allowed them to settle their differences over Jelly bean soup.
Lady Liquorish finished her soup then hurried home. The lonely orange ladybug, who was now no longer lonely, was left to marry her charm prince James in his beautiful castle of graham crackers.
Dance with Me
I wrote this because me and some friends are filming a talk show next week, and we needed a skit for it. <3>
Narrator: Once upon a time
James: No! No! No! I'm just an average street sweeper, this story is my one chance for greatness. Can it please have another beginning?
Narrator: Hey! I like once upon time
James: So do I, don't get me wrong. It's just a little overused
Narrator: Ok ok, I've got one. Many Years ago in a far off place,
James: That's better
Narrator: Hush!! Many years ago in a far off place lived a street sweeper named James . Every day
James: I sweep streets
N: Day in and day out he swept streets. Now street sweeping isn't such a bad job, but in his heart James longed for something more.
James: I want an adventure, but street sweepers don't have adventures
Narrator: Little did James know that the perfect adventure was crashing his way
Messenger : May it be know that all young men in the kingdom are hereby invited to a royal ball at 7pm at the palace tonight in honor of princess Julia's 18th birthday. Goodbye.
James: Wait!
Messenger : What?
James: Did you just invite me to a royal ball?
Messenger : The invitation did include you I suppose, but I am much too busy to debate the finer points of court proclamations. Goodbye!
Narrator: So James went back to his street sweeping he swept faster than he ever had before . Finally he finished But now he had another problem: what to wear to the royal ball? So James skipped off in search of the perfect thing to wear to the ball.
Fairy: Uncle James!!!
Narrator: James was so busy that he didn't notice his older sister's daughter, his niece and fairy god-daughter following him.
James : It's hopeless!!!
Fairy: Uncle James!!! N
arrator: But James still did not notice, so his fairy god-daughter decided that it would take desperate measures to get his attention. She pulled out her wand and said:
Fairy : Gibbity Gobbity Go!!
Narrator: Nothing happened so she tried again:
Fairy: Clickity Clockity Clue!!
Narrator: Suddenly her can of magic fairy dust appeared, she sprayed it in the air, rapidly getting her uncle's attention!
James : Hello Lisa!
Narrator: Finally getting his attention she gently layed the dry cleaned suit her mother (the dry cleaner) had sent her to deliver to a neighbor also named James. Unaware that her innocent mistake had opened new doors for James she skipped away!
James : Hmmmmm
Narrator: Suddenly it occurred to him, his sister the dry cleaner had heard about the ball and sent him the suit to wear for it. He ran to get dressed, meanwhile at the castle...
Queen: Come you must get ready for the ball!
Princess: I don't want to go the ball
Queen: Nonsense Julia! The ball is in honor of your eighteenth birthday, you must go!
Princess: I know why I have to go I just really don't want to
Queen: Nonsense!! This is a very important ball, you must go!
Princess :And find a husband
Queen: And find a husband
Queen: Julia it's not that bad.
Princess: They're just so boring!
Queen: What?
Princess: Prince Charming only wants to hear himself talk, Prince Awesome only wants to show off and Prince Intellect is an absolute toad!!
Queen: Who names their sons Charming, Awesome and Intellect anyway???
Princess: You're not helping mother
Queen: Sorry honey, I just meant that maybe the boy you're looking for isn't a prince.
Princess: I suppose so
Queen: You'll meet him tonight, I'm sure you will!! He'll walk in and look at you...
Princess: What will he say?
Queen: He'll say... Dance with me! But no one is going to say anything if you don't get ready
Narrator: So the princess got ready and the guests arrive. Julia mingled while James wandered, both unaware of what was to come.
James: Sorry...
Narrator: James began, but before he could finish he met the princess' eyes. They stared into each other's eyes until James retrieved her glass slipper and pulled her to her feet. Then very slowly he reached out his hand..
James: Dance with me?
Narrator: The princess said yes and you all know th rest
Narrator: Ok ok, James got a bad allergic reaction from his fairy god-daughters fairy dustbut it wasn't that bad and they got married and lived in a shinning castle, became king and queen and lived happily ever after!!
Everyone: The end!
Harry Potter 7
Harry Potter 7 is comming out on JULY 21st!!!!!
I'm soooo excited, but it's defiently a mark of how much I loved camp last year that I'll be at Camp WILD when it comes out. So I probably won't be up until 5 in the morning reading it like I was last time (I finished too!!!)
But anyway.. intresting/exciting things I've found out about it (mostly so I can keep track of them)
"Now, the important thing about Harry's mother - the really, really significant thing - you're going to find out in two parts. You'll find out a lot more about her in book five, or you'll find out something very significant about her in book five, and you'll find out something incredibly important about her in book seven." – J. K. Rowling
Because Harry convinced Remus Lupin and Sirius Black to spare Peter Pettigrew's life in the third book, Pettigrew owes Potter a yet unpaid life debt.
Rowling has long said that the fact that Harry's eyes resemble his mother's is important
Rowling has said that some non-magical character will perform magic late in life in desperate circumstances.[26] However, Petunia will not be the one to perform magic (despite that whole Petunia being a squib theory)
Rowling has said that Ginny Weasley is quite powerful, that we have seen a taste of that in the past, and we will see it again (HECK YESSS)
Dumbledore was said to have a "gleam of triumph" in his eyes when told that Voldemort had restored his body using Harry's blood, at the end of Goblet of Fire (Ch. 36). Rowling has confirmed that this is "still enormously significant
